Dental Veneers

Purpose:

Dental veneers are made of thin tooth-colored material such as porcelain or composite resin material. These are then bonded and shaped onto the patient’s teeth to their liking. This is a type of cosmetic procedure that can be used to correct teeth discoloration, worn down teeth

(due to age), chipped or broken teeth, or teeth with irregularities. Dental veneers are typically permanent procedures. Generally patients over the age of 18 get veneers due to having lost all their baby teeth.

Procedure:

This process takes about three trips to the dentist depending on the number of veneers. The first trip is for consultation and planning the other trips to complete the process. The next trips will consist of making and applying the veneers to the patient’s teeth. During the first trip, the patient will discuss with the dentist the material they prefer as well as specifically what they would like to fix if the dentist approves them for veneers after assessing their oral health. The next trip, the dentist will remove the enamel and obtain a mold of the teeth to send to the lab to create the veneers for the next and final trip to the dentist. After about one or two weeks, the veneers will be ready for implantation in which the dentist cleans the teeth and preps it so they can bind the veneer to the teeth using dental cement. The recovery process for this type of procedure is generally short and you can resume regular eating habits.
